It is very easy to determine if number patterns are linear or nonlinear. The first step is to find a number pattern.

Example: 1,3,5,7


This number pattern is linear. You can tell because of the pattern between the numbers. You can also just use simple addition: 1+2=
3, then if 3+2=5 YES it does. So that is how you prove that the pattern is linear or not.But you can make the difference between the numbers

as high as you want. So it can be 100, 200, 300. Because the diference between the numbers is 100.

Example: 0,5,7,3

This number pattern is nonlinear. You can tell because there is no steady pattern between the numbers. Lets just make sure. 0+4= 5 but does 5+4=7? NO! So that is what makes the number pattern nonlinear.

There are a couple rules to determining linear and nonlinear number patterns. The first rule is that the difference between the numbers cannot be determined by multiplying. The second rule is that the difference between the numbers has to be the same. So you cannot do 1,2,3,1,2,3 besause it subtracts.

Example: 1,3,6
You cannot do that because 1+2=3 but 3+2 does not equal 6.



Now to make it a little more complicated here is a different kind of number pattern:

3+4³×2

These are easy to solve after you get it but before then you just need to think a little. If you look at the number pattern carefully there is an exponent. THE EXPONENT AUTOMATICALLY TELLS YOU THE NUMBER PATTERN IS NONLINEAR.
